Position OverviewThe Assistive Technology Specialist is responsible for providing Assistive Technology for Kansans' (ATK) core services throughout the Northeast region of Kansas with a primary emphasis on assistive technology funding assistance, public awareness, and outreach. This position supports individuals with disabilities, family members, service providers, educators, and healthcare professionals in accessing assistive technology devices and identifying funding resources that increase independence, participation, and quality of life.
Responsibilities include providing device demonstrations, device loans, device funding assistance, and assistive technology device requests. The specialist assists individuals in identifying potential funding sources, navigating funding applications and documentation requirements, and connecting customers with community resources and services.
This position also plays a key role in increasing awareness of assistive technology services throughout the Northeast region by conducting outreach activities, community presentations, trainings, and public awareness events. The specialist will develop and maintain relationships with community organizations, healthcare providers, schools, service agencies, and other stakeholders to increase awareness of ATK services and resources.
Success in this role requires strong customer service skills, organization, attention to detail, communication skills, flexibility, and the ability to support individuals with diverse needs while managing multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
Job Description(40%) ATK Core Services - Northeast Kansas Region- Provide ATK's four core services:
- Device Demonstration
- Device Loans
- AT Device Requests
- Provide assistive technology demonstrations and short-term device loans to individuals and service providers.
- Conduct assistive technology trainings and consultations.
- Provide information and referrals related to assistive technology and community resources.
- Complete intake forms and maintain accurate customer documentation.
- Enter all service data into the database by Friday at 5:00 PM each week.
(25%) Funding Assistance- Assist individuals in identifying and accessing funding resources for assistive technology devices and services.
- Provide guidance regarding funding programs such as Medicaid, Medicare, HCBS Waivers, private insurance, and community funding resources.
- Support individuals, family members, and service providers with funding documentation, application processes, and referrals.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers, case managers, schools, and community agencies to support funding requests and service coordination.
- Maintain current knowledge of funding resources, eligibility requirements, and assistive technology funding trends.
(15%) Professional Development and Travel- Participate in statewide staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
- Travel throughout the Northeast region to provide services, outreach, and presentations.
- Stay informed regarding assistive technology trends, funding resources, and service delivery practices.
(10%) Public Awareness and Outreach- Conduct outreach activities throughout the Northeast region of Kansas to increase awareness of ATK services and assistive technology resources.
- Develop and maintain relationships with community organizations, healthcare providers, schools, employers, and service agencies.
- Conduct presentations, trainings, and public awareness events for individuals, professionals, and community partners.
- Represent ATK at conferences, resource fairs, and community events.
- Assist with the development and distribution of outreach and educational materials.
(10%) Data Management and Documentation- Maintain accurate and timely data entry in the ATK statewide database.
- Ensure documentation is completed according to program and grant requirements.
- Maintain organized customer and service records.
Position Requirements- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to travel independently to provide assistive technology services, outreach activities, trainings, and presentations.
- Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends for outreach events, trainings, conferences, or community presentations.
- Ability to lift and move up to 30 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in social work, healthcare, rehabilitation services, human services, education, communication disorders, or a related field OR high school diploma/GED and 3 years of experience in field of study.
- Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities, older adults, or individuals with complex medical or support needs, as evidenced by application materials
- Previous experience with assistive technology devices, durable medical equipment, or adaptive equipment, as evidenced by application materials.
Preferred Qualifications- Previous customer service experience with the ability to professionally interact with individuals in person, by phone, electronically, and in community settings.
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple responsibilities while meeting documentation and reporting deadlines as evidence by work history.
- Previous experience using technology including databases, Microsoft Office applications, virtual meeting platforms, and assistive technology devices.
