Position Overview: We are seeking a Head Men’s Wrestling Coach who will report to the Athletic Director. The Head Men’s Wrestling Coach will lead program instruction, team practices, contests, travel, recruiting, student-athlete eligibility, and academic progress. The candidate must be of professional and high ethical standards when representing Mott Community College in addition to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
Duties and Responsibilities:
Collaborates with assistant coaches/student managers to plan and direct the athletic team, assigning positions, preparing players for athletic competition, developing and implementing strategies to improve performance, and determining game strategy.
Models and encourages leadership, sportsmanship, teamwork, and positive citizenship.
Serves as the responsible party for student-athlete safety and conduct during all team athletic practices, games, events and activities and notifies the Athletic Director of any issues.
Perform a variety of administrative responsibilities by collaborating with the Director of Athletics and department staff in managing transportation, scheduling non-league contests, and assisting with budgets for your respective sport.
Effectively recruit talented student-athletes, team information and relevant updates on required athletic websites, and transport student-athletes when necessary during scheduled road trips in the College Van/Bus.
Collaborate with the Athletic Department Compliance/Academic Advisor/Success Coach in promoting the academic success of all student-athletes, making appropriate referrals to campus resources for those needing academic support.
Participate in fundraising efforts for the Department of Athletics that engage the community and provide supplemental funds for the Women’s Basketball program.
Obtain updated and valid physical records of student-athletes prior to athletic participation.
Maintains positive relationships with high school coaches and sport organizations to assist in recruiting prospective student-athletes.
Uphold and enforce all the rules of the NJCAA, Mott Community College Athletic Code of Conduct, Student Code of Conduct, and department rules as described in the Student-Athlete Handbook and the MCC Handbook for Coaches.
Assists in verifying athlete eligibility prior to competition and throughout the competitive season.
Supports Sports Information Director, Marketing and public relations efforts by providing game/athletic contest results in a timely manner, sharing student-athlete success stories, and promoting athletics in the community.
Oversees the maintenance and inventory of sports equipment and supplies.
Participates in required functions and meetings deemed by the Athletic Director.
Obtains Chauffeur's license to drive vehicles to and from contests when necessary.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Experience, Abilities and Skills Required:
Requires an Associate's degree in sports management, physical education, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to provide necessary skills to mentor and develop student-athletes holistically.
Requires previous coaching experience, preferably at the collegiate level, including player evaluation and recruiting.
Passion for the institution's mission, traditions, and long-term success, consistently demonstrating the mission, vision, and values of the College.
Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to instruct and motivate student-athletes and the ability to communicate clearly in writing.
Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record, able and willing to obtain Chauffeur’s to drive vehicles to and from contests within 30 days of being hired.
Demonstrate commitment and ability to provide a quality student-athlete experience.
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree.
CPR and/or first aid certification.
Unique Aspects of Job:
Responsible for the program on a year-round basis.
This is an at-will position which allows the employment relationship to be immediately terminated for unsatisfactory performance or any other basis deemed appropriate by Administration.
Physical Requirements:
Must have the ability to lift, move and store all equipment and be able to set up and take down needed equipment for practices and games.
Hours/Schedule:
Must be able to work throughout the year with a varied schedule, which will include days, evenings and weekends.
Mott Community College (officially Charles Stewart Mott Community College or abbreviated MCC) is a public community college in Flint, Michigan.
