Job Summary: The Mover loads and unloads equipment, supplies, trash, etc. Sets up and takes down equipment. Cleans, moves, and rearranges furniture. Performs errands or messenger duties under close supervision. May be required to drive University vehicles.
Additional Department Summary: The Mover performs and assists faculty/staff/students/residents with portage of office and personal items with move-in or move-out and deliveries of all sorts of items: moving, packing, assembling and dismantling furniture, appliances, computers, scientific equipment for labs, personal possessions, and transporting to the customer desired location. Performs the setup and dismantling of tents, stages, banners, seating, tables and other items needed for special functions across campus and off campus and later returning the space to its regular use. Ensures that ADA requirements are met with each special function. This position will be expected to handle items with care while some items will be value in excess of $250,000 and some items will have historic value. Must be able to work with a team or be self sufficient in completing a task.
Required Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma or GED.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Tools are as follows, but not limited to: jackhammer, drills, hammers, pallet jacks, dollies, forklifts, ropes, ratchet straps, etc. Must be able to correctly use those items in the job summary and in the essential duties.
Will be required to obtain an approved University of Alabama forklift license within 6 months of hire.
Must be available for emergency stand-by as needed.
Final candidates who are not current University of Alabama employees must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.
Skills and Knowledge: Knowledgeable with logistical support, customer service, and inventory. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, and Internet Explorer). Have the ability to work without constant supervision and follow up. Have a strong sense of urgency and a commitment to excellence.
