The Senior Associate Director, Global Engagement reports to the Director, Global Initiatives and will develop and execute a sophisticated engagement strategy for Northeastern's global campus network that will connect and inform a diverse community of alumni, students and parents, and faculty and staff. They will also oversee the deployment of a global awards program, a global giving society, and assist with the implementation of the Navigator program across the London, Oakland, and Boston campuses. The Senior Associate Director will work both collaboratively within the division as well as with global campus leaders throughout the university system and independently, utilizing innovative and creative thinking in the development and implementation of engagement opportunities.

Along with the Director, developing and executing a sophisticated engagement strategy with a focus on multifaceted opportunities to connect and inform a diverse community of stakeholders across the global campus network. Developing and overseeing the integration of high-impact programs, events, and content while refining engagement activities to optimize and promote the value and capacity of the Northeastern global campus network. They will pilot programs that strengthen Northeastern graduates' connections to the global campus community. They will evaluate current programs to determine effectiveness. Along with the Director, developing and implementing the holistic Navigator mentorship program for Northeastern graduates and undergraduate students on the London, Boston, and Oakland campuses. This program particularly supports mobility students as they move throughout the global campus network. Developing and implementing, in conjunction with teams across the division, global recognition programs and annual giving opportunities. Cultivating and educating key stakeholders who will aid in executing global campus-based engagement activities and serve as ambassadors, furthering the mission of Advancement in connecting with all alumni through meaningful interactions. Planning and producing successful events and programs in alignment with university and division goals and mission, including monthly programs offered through Navigator. Effectively managing and developing a professional staff member.
The Senior Associate Director, Global Engagement must be able to represent the university and the Global Engagement team in a professional, enthusiastic manner with a customer service and team focus. The Senior Associate Director must have the ability to speak to audiences of various sizes and in various settings and should be aware of and adaptable to accommodating cultural differences. Evening and weekend work required as needs dictate. Occasional ground and air travel, and a flexible schedule are required. While the primary role of this position is to focus on the global campus network, it will require some work with assisting at Boston-based events throughout the year, and other duties, as assigned.
As a member of the Advancement Division, it is essential for the Senior Associate Director to understand and support the role philanthropy plays in engaging the Northeastern community.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning
In collaboration with the Director, responsible for creation, oversight, and execution of the strategic direction of an engagement strategy focusing on multifaceted engagement opportunities that will connect and inform a diverse community of alumni, parents, students, and global campus leaders. These opportunities include but are not limited to relationship building, content engagement, events, webinars, online learning, and speakers' series.
Evaluate current programs to determine effectiveness and provide oversight to the integration of new program development. Implement opportunities for alumni engagement through mentorship, recognition, and annual giving.
Event Planning and Production
Plan and produce successful events and programs from concept to post-mortem, within a given budget, and in a fiscally responsible manner while managing both internal and external relationships and the work flow of various team members.
Partner with AR's Marketing and Communications team to create content, develop and implement effective communication templates and policies, and manage expectations with internal constituents as it relates to alumni outreach and event marketing.
Relationship Building and Collaboration; Forging Partnerships
Enrich existing relationships with the global campus network and any other university department as deemed necessary by (a) developing partnerships and executing effective strategies to establish, launch, and sustain engagement opportunities; (b) identifying how their needs intersect with our outreach efforts in order to create and augment programmatic deliverables for alumni; (c) developing collaborative partnerships that will deliver shared engagement opportunities; (d) engaging all areas of the university in a centralized alumni relations model.
Cultivate alumni volunteers who will aid in executing engagement activities and serve as ambassadors, furthering the mission of Advancement in connecting all alumni through meaningful interactions.
Leadership Development and Staff Management
Oversee the hiring, orientation, and training of direct reports or team members as assigned. Provide guidance and mentorship to junior colleagues and lead by professional example. A focus of this role includes management and professional development of team members who report directly to this position, including annual goal setting and performance evaluation.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree a plus. Five to seven (5-7) years of experience required in producing programs/events and relationship building. Two to three (2-3) years of supervisory management experience preferred. Experience in a startup or entrepreneurial ecosystem a plus.
Candidate should have a strong background in strategic development and planning, relationship management, and producing programs and events. They will be a detail-oriented self-starter with enthusiasm for creative problem-solving and a strong customer service focus.
Ability to interact professionally and diplomatically with all constituents both internal, external, as well as vendors.
Ability to be flexible and work independently and in a fast-paced team environment on multiple projects at a time while still hitting deadlines amid regularly shifting priorities. Ability to work independently and in a team environment on several projects at a time.
