EVENTS PLANNER, School of Architecture and Planning (SA+P), to independently execute a wide variety of events ranging from ceremonies with 1,000 attendees to student lunches for ten. Will contribute insight into event planning, concept, and design; and provide general administrative services for student support function. Responsibilities include organizing and serving as point person for event logistics and operations, e.g., facilities, decor, catering, entertainment, transportation, invitee list, equipment, promotional material, etc.; establishing timelines and deadlines; responding to and resolving questions and problems; identifying, interviewing, selecting, and negotiating with vendors; creating invitations and marketing materials and handling PR activities; updating websites; evaluating event staffing needs and training and directing volunteers; developing events budgets for review and approval by events sponsors; independently tracking and reconciling event/programming expenses consistent with the budget; developing and maintaining databases to generate reports, including registration and budgets; evaluating events and recommending and implementing changes and enhancements based on feedback; participating in monthly student support team meetings and pursuing follow up activities as necessary; designing and editing presentation materials, including reports, slide decks, and newsletters; manipulating and presenting student population and admission data using Excel and MIT databases; drafting, formatting, fact-checking, and proofreading correspondence and other content; and performing additional duties as assigned. REQUIRED: bachelor's degree; two years' events planning or project/program management experience; ability to work independently and as part of a team and to communicate effectively--both in writing and orally--with diverse audiences; excellent organizational and problem-solving skills; ability to give constructive direction; meticulous attention to detail; and facility with event and project management software and interest in trying new tools. Work conditions: moving objects weighing 10 to 20 lbs., and traversing significant distances or moving from site to site.
Must be able to travel and work nights and weekends as necessary.
Salary Range: $55,000 - $70,000 depending on experience.
