Description General Statement of Duties: Teach three courses per semester in Ceramics. The Ceramics studio includes a kiln room with 8 electric kilns and a clay mixing area with Peter Pugger and Bluebird mixers. The Makers portion includes 10 potters' wheels and 5 hand-building tables surrounded by shelving units. The glaze area is within the Maker's section. The outdoor kiln area houses our gas kilns, a raku and salt kilns, an 80 cubic ft. brick kiln, a 10 cubic foot Alpine kiln, and a glaze booth. Beyond keeping the space in clean, working order, there is the maintenance of tools for safety and function, the purchasing of materials, stocking, physically going to get materials, and management of the student lab techs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities* Teach Ceramics courses. May be called up to teach a foundation course and/or Senior critique class or its equivalent. Advise DADAH Students and Ceramic Certificate students. Provide one-on-one Student Safety Training about the wheels, mixers, kilns, clay, and chemical hazards. Material purchases and acquisitions
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities* Attend meetings, participate in faculty-led critiques and portfolio reviews, and maintain necessary communications with students, faculty, and staff; attend department events and contribute to department academic life; contribute to department recruiting efforts via travel to area schools, engaging in portfolio review for prospective students, maintain communications with prospective students.

Functional/Technical Skills* Mandatory skills: Ceramic Sculpture, Wheel throwing (5 years of experience) ceramic mold making and casting skills, 3D printing, knowledge of glaze calculation, clay bodies, kiln building, installation, history of ceramics, cross-pollination of materials with clay.
Requisite Experience* Ceramic sculpture, wheel throwing (5 years of experience), ceramic mold making, and slip casting experience. Knowledge of ceramics in Contemporary Art. Knowledge of ceramics in Contemporary Craft and Design.

Special Instructions For Applicant
Physical Demands Shop environment with hand-building tables and pottery wheels. Indoor and outdoor working areas are covered and uncovered. Acquiring materials for lab upkeep and for student use will require a personal vehicle for purchase and transportation to Webster. Commonly lifting and moving 25 - 50 pounds of materials, and kiln shelves. Keeping up maintenance of outdoor kiln/sculpture area, safe, clean, and organized.
