Under limited supervision, the Mechanic will perform technical duties in support of the Office of Transportation Services. Duties will include: performing preventative and regular maintenance and repairs; conducting mechanical and electrical diagnosis and complete Pennsylvania safety and emissions inspections on University vehicles, school and transit buses. 1. Performs routine vehicle maintenance *Performs preventative maintenance and repairs on University vehicles and heavy equipment *Changes oil, checks fluid levels, changes tires, etc.
2. Performs mechanical and electrical diagnosis and repairs on school and transit buses as assigned *Determines and makes necessary repairs, locate parts necessary for repairs, replaces parts as indicated *Performs repairs on gasoline and diesel vehicles, including school and transit buses
3. Performs Pennsylvania safety and emissions inspections *Performs safety and emissions inspections as prescribed by law
4. Miscellaneous duties *Delivers and picks up parts and vehicles to various locations *Performs minor vehicle body repairs. *Cleans, washes and waxes vehicles *Provides "fill-in" support by performing duties of other positions during periods of vacation, sick leave, personal absence, etc. *These duties are performed on an occasional basis and not on a regular basis

The duties of the position do not allow for a remote work option; the employee in this position will be required to work on campus where they can be fully accessible to the Lehigh community.
This position is responsible for driving university-owned vehicles as a routine function, therefore a valid Driver’s License and a good driving record is required
Will often need to climb or balance, stand, use hands to touch, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, walk, work near moving mechanical parts, lift up to 100 pounds, be subject to electrical hazards, explosive materials, frequent vibration, fumes or airborne particles and work hazards
Some weekend and evening hours required as necessary
Overtime may be required during peak times
This position is considered Essential Services Staff; Essential Services Staff are required to report to campus and remain during inclement weather and other emergency situations; they are defined as those needed to deliver student services and maintain campus facilities, campus safety and security
Qualifications
High school diploma or the equivalent combination of education and experience
Five to eight years related work experience
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, time management and sound judgment
Proven ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and a high degree of initiative for bringing tasks to completion
Solid analytical, decision making and problem-solving skills
Solid computer skills with experience using word processing, spreadsheet and database software
Successful completion of standard background checks including but not limited to: social security verification, education verification, national criminal background checks, motor vehicle checks, PATCH, FBI fingerprinting, Child Abuse Clearance and credit history based upon the requirements of the position
