The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary
The Lamont Mechanic provides immediate and effective responses to work assigned by supervisor, or by job order, and ensures that work is completed in a good workmanship-like manner and that the physical condition of buildings and grounds are safe and in good repair. The Lamont Mechanic performs all phases of repair & maintenance and construction & renovation; uses a wide variety of equipment and tools; reads and accurately interprets blueprints, schematics & diagrams; and works independently with complex building systems involving multi-disciplinary skills without supervision.
Responsibilities
The Lamont Mechanic will assist in planning for and perform all maintenance and repair functions, including grounds keeping, snow and ice removal, general construction, utility repairs, heavy cleaning, and related duties as assigned.
The Lamont Mechanic may be assigned to run a job involving a crew consisting of other Lamont Mechanics, Lamont Assistant Mechanics, Lamont Mechanic Trainees, and Casual Employees, and is required to provide training to such crew as needed.
The Lamont Mechanic may also be assigned to run a job assisted by contractors and/or vendors, and is expected to further his/her own expertise and experience during such assignment.
The Lamont Mechanic may be assigned projects requiring quantifying materials and equipment needed, and procuring supplies as duly authorized.
The Lamont Mechanic will participate in the implementation of preventative maintenance programs, the development of standards for quality and productivity for the campus, the evaluation of new equipment for purchase, and make recommendations for products and equipment to be used. Record keeping may be required.
Handles and transports on-campus universal waste to central storage area for disposal.
Must successfully complete required safety and regulatory compliance training, and conform to all requirements on the job.
Must report to work and work overtime as directed by supervisory staff to support emergency operations including, but not limited to, snow removal.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent required.
Must demonstrate aptitude for Mechanic duties and must possess five years related experience as a maintenance mechanic or tradesman. Must possess and maintain valid driver???s license.
Must be physically fit to do extensive walking, stair climbing, lifting (50 lbs), moving heavy objects with assistive devices, and overhead work.
Must be able to drive utility vehicles and operate grounds keeping machinery.
Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedures manuals, blueprints, schematics and diagrams.
Must be knowledgeable in the safe use of tools and equipment.
Must be trustworthy and responsible, able to communicate effectively, possess teamwork skills, and represent the department appropriately to its constituents.
Must provide current and updated home & cell phone numbers.
Must be available to respond to any emergency on a 24-hour basis, and to work overtime as directed.
