The Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) is a 12-month position that provides strategic leadership and programmatic vision around issues of diversity, equity, inclusion in the community. The Director works in partnership with the senior leadership team to shape and sustain an inclusive community that is respectful and affirming of all its members. This position starts July 1, 2023.
Essential Functions:
Play a vital role in creating and implementing strategy and long-term plans for DEI that mirror, support, and extend the strategic vision of the school
Serve as a resource for the administration, faculty, staff, and students regarding DEI topics
Create and facilitate workshops and professional development sessions related to DEI topics
Support faculty in managing complex conversations with students and families
Meet regularly with and support leadership of the identity/affinity-based student organizations
Advocate for families from under-represented groups in the Solebury School community
Help foster a culture where students can explore a range of perspectives within an environment that is supportive of open debate and discussions
Guide members of the school community to make culturally competent decisions that best reflect the school’s mission, promise and core values
Help educate the Solebury School community about what is, and is not, appropriate and meet with community members who violate community norms and standards in their actions or words
Teach a minimum of one course per trimester
Advise up to 8 students
Qualifications:
Required
Bachelor’s Degree, ideally in education or a field related to DEI
Experience in a role that promotes and supports diversity, equity, and inclusivity. The ideal candidate will have this experience in the field of education and at an independent high school.
Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire people from a multitude of backgrounds and perspectives
Experience in strategic planning and an ability to gather and utilize data and adjust accordingly
Experience creating and facilitating workshops and professional development sessions related to DEI
Experience creating and adapting curriculum to ensure it aligns with standards of DEI
Ability to build and sustain relationships with internal and external constituencies
Highly effective oral and written communication skills
Preferred
Master’s Degree, ideally in education or a field related to DEI
5-7 years of experience related to developing and implementing diversity and inclusion initiatives. An appropriate combination of leadership, education, training, coursework, and experience may qualify a candidate.
Other Requirements and Work Environment:
Physical: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, reach for or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting, standing and walking around both inside and outside at times.
Communication: Activities include both hearing and talking to express or exchange ideas and information
Environmental conditions: Activities occur mostly inside and occasionally outside, with location being a combination of at a desk and standing/moving about
Valid driver’s license required as well as ability to pass a variety of background checks
