LSA Technology Services is seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to support faculty and students with instructional technology in the College of LSA. Individuals in this position would also support a variety of events held on the University of Michigan’s Central Campus.
This position will involve working in support of collaborative learning and presentation and in support of a wide range of pedagogical activities; collaborating with instructors and staff with an emphasis on clear, concise and diplomatic communication to resolve issues and operational aspects of rich media presentation and use; and setting up and operating a variety of instructional technology and AV equipment. Individuals in this position will be expected to participate in on-the-job training in order to gain skills and expertise, potentially also including media support for special events and conferences, videography, video conferencing, video streaming, lecture capture and/or projection using two-machine, change-over 35mm projection systems.
Technical Pre/Post Preparation for Courses/Events
Provide service-oriented high quality customer service to faculty, staff, students and event staff, assisting with audio/visual and computer technology and media in LSA classrooms and elsewhere. Respond to faculty, staff and student needs, and collaborate with other Technology Services staff to identify, and implement appropriate AV technology solutions for teaching and learning.
Troubleshoot technical issues, as well as track, resolve, and follow up on operational problems with equipment and facilities, cleaning and maintaining equipment as necessary
Train faculty, staff and students in use of LSA classroom facilities, equipment, and new instructional technologies; act as back-up for colleagues; supervise and mentor student employees, as appropriate.
Interface with web based reservation system to maintain equipment inventory and data collection; work on teams to conduct equipment inventory and classroom maintenance audits, assist in the maintenance of web-based inventory and asset management databases; Assist colleagues in the evaluation, documentation, and implementation of new technologies
Communicate and cooperate with colleagues on projects and technologies in team meetings and via electronic communication and social networking software
At least two years live event support experience
Considerable experience and knowledge operating complex audio-visual and computer based technologies
Experience in operating video and data projector systems and media control systems
Familiarity with Macintosh and Windows operating systems
Exceptional customer service skills
Strong analytical skills: ability to troubleshoot equipment, connection and software problems
Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
History of demonstrated strong interpersonal and positive communication skills
Ability to interact positively with a very diverse community of faculty, students, and staff
Experience and enthusiasm for customer service and helping people
Demonstrated ability to work under tight deadlines and motivate others under tight deadlines
Ability to analyze a situation quickly and create solutions aligned with unit policies to ensure effective classroom experience for students and faculty

Move and transport objects such as projectors, screens, monitors, equipment carts, AV racks, and AV podia with weight up to 50lbs (frequency of working with the maximum weight may be up to several times a month)
Travel between buildings during inclement weather
Move cart-based equipment between buildings
Work in enclosed spaces in the vicinity of numerous electronic components
Navigate in enclosed spaces in the vicinity of numerous electronic components
Navigate to and from work spaces accessible only by stairs
Ability to sharply focus projected images close up or from distances up to 200 feet
Ability to communicate with instructors, students, and others and requires rapid accurate response to spoken directions
Experience with troubleshooting multiple video conferencing formats, running 35mm film projector change-over systems, and/or videography experience
Knowledge of UM Central Campus buildings/facilities
Knowledge regarding UM communication tools
Some evening and weekend work is required. Schedules may be adjusted to accommodate this work.
This position is 100% onsite located on UM Ann Arbor Central Campus.
