Campus Service Worker - Erickson Alumni Center 16338 Description The department of Alumni Association Center Operations at West Virginia University is seeking applications for a Campus Service Worker. This position is responsible for providing a variety of support services in order to maintain the interior appearance of the Erickson Alumni Center and exterior appearance of Alumni Center grounds. Work involves adhering to established procedures, techniques and safety requirements with some judgement required to interpret instructions. The position has frequent public contact with Alumni Center clientele. In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will: - Clean and maintain the interior appearance of the Alumni Center including meeting rooms, offices, public areas, etc. by sweeping, mopping, stripping, and waxing floors, vacuuming and shampooing carpets, rugs and upholstery, dusting and polishing furniture, washing and cleaning walls, ceilings, doors, windows, etc. and performing other related internal cleaning activities.
- Clean and disinfect bathrooms and kitchenettes including walls, floors, lavatories, commodes, sinks, refrigerators, stoves, fixtures, mirrors, etc. Replenishes supplies including toilet tissue, towels, and soap.
- Operate walk-behind and riding scrubbers, high-speed buffers, automated carpet cleaners, power lifts, and all other associated equipment needed to perform duties listed above.
- Operate equipment in performance of duties such as brooms, mops, vacuums, shampooers, high-speed burnishers, etc.
- Mix and dilute commercial strength disinfectants, germicidal detergents and other stringent cleaning solutions. Calculate areas to determine amounts of cleaning solutions required. Follow established safety procedures in the use of equipment and materials.
- Conduct periodic inspections of assigned areas.
- Lock and unlock doors, offices and meeting rooms as directed by the Shift Supervisor, Manager or Assistant Director Facilities.
- Move equipment, chairs, tables, etc. to other floors using dollies, carts, etc. on elevators or stairways.
- May be required to operate various hand and power tools in the performance of duties.
- Relocate offices and meeting rooms within building by lifting, loading, and unloading furniture, file cabinets, boxes, etc. onto hand trucks, dollies, and box vans for transportation. May require removing desk components, doors, and shelves to ease in relocations.
- May be required to clean and maintain the surrounding exterior appearance of the building by raking, removing, and disposing of leaves and debris, cleaning gutters, culverts, and other drainage areas, sweeping, shoveling, and removing snow, ice, slush, and mud from entryways and sidewalks, spreading salt and cinders on public passageways, washing graffiti from walls and sidewalks and performing other related external cleaning activities.
- May be required to operate blowers, walk-behind sweepers, or any other equipment needed to perform duties listed above. Removes weeds from shrub and flowerbeds as required.
- Collect and properly dispose of trash and litter throughout institutional buildings and grounds including cleaning of trash receptacles and assisting sanitation vehicle operators.
- Collect recyclable items and places in appropriate storage location.
- Implement energy conservation best practices at the Alumni Center.
- Unload and store supplies, rotating stock. Obtain appropriate signatures for deliveries.
- Notify the Manager of furniture, equipment, and facilities needing repair or replacement and of potential safety/fire violations.
- Attend various training classes, including fire and active shooter drills, AED, first-aid, seminars and other meetings to learn techniques and procedures and to remain current in all safety requirements.
- Follow best risk management practices recommended by BRIM (Board of Risk and Insurance Management) as directed by the Assistant Director - Facilities and Manager.
Pay Grade : 7 Qualifications - High school diploma or GED or any equivalent combination of vocational experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Six months of directly related experience preferred; preference may be given to candidates with greater amounts of directly related experience.
- Knowledge of and the ability to learn custodial methods, procedures and safety principles.
- Knowledge of and the ability to learn basic grounds keeping and labor activities.
- Ability to learn to operate basic labor supporting equipment, basic grounds keeping equipment, and demonstrated ability to operate commercial custodial equipment.
- Physical capability to perform duties of the position including long periods of standing and walking, bending, stooping and climbing, and lifting of heavy items weighing approximately 50-75 pounds.
- Ability to perform tasks requiring frequent and prolonged exposure to extreme variations in temperatures including outdoor weather conditions and exposure to dust, fumes, and chemicals.
- Must have a customer service orientation.
- Ability to communicate orally and in written format.

- Ability to learn and apply association, institution, state and federal policies, statutes and regulations that impact the position.

- Must have a clean and professional appearance at all times.
