Internal Job Number: P04155UF Description: The Extension Service Josephine County Office invites applications for a full-time (1.0FTE), 12-month, Assistant Professor of Practice position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Director. This fixed-term Assistant Professor of Practice position is based at the Oregon State University (OSU) Extension Service Josephine County Office in Grants Pass, Oregon. The academic home of the position is the OSU Department of Horticulture in the College of Agricultural Sciences. This position reports to the Regional Director assigned to the Southern region in which the position is based. Decisions regarding performance and reappointment are made in consultation with the supervision team which includes the Extension Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources Program Leader. Active contributions to scholarship are required (see the scholarship duties section, below, for details). As a land grant institution committed to teaching, research and outreach and engagement, OSU promotes economic, social, cultural and environmental progress for the people of Oregon, the nation and the world. This position contributes to the mission of the College of Agricultural Sciences, with principal responsibility for needs assessment, Extension program development, delivery, and evaluation, and for conducting and publishing applied research to support Extension activities. This faculty member develops and conducts educational programs in topic areas relevant to small-scale commercial and community agriculture, with emphasis on diversified vegetable, orchard, and seed crops. The individual will work collaboratively with area agricultural producers, agriculture and natural resource agencies, and OSU faculty to plan, organize, deliver and evaluate educational programs and provide farm-related problem-solving services. Service to Illinois Valley residents is expected, in addition to broader countywide efforts. This faculty member provides leadership for the Josephine County Master Gardener volunteer program. In this role the faculty member oversees volunteer recruitment, training and retention; organizes volunteer middle managers; and collaborates with the local Master Gardener Association. The faculty member is also expected to develop community horticulture classes for the general public, for delivery personally or through volunteers or other collaborators. This faculty member is required to use modern learning tools including online and hybrid classes, employ and practice engaged scholarship, promote integration of programs across disciplines that are demand-driven and use open source tools that continually align with innovation and shifts in educational program delivery. Active and effective communication with staff and key stakeholders is critical to the success of this position. This position will require traveling.
