This Exercise Research Technician position entails overseeing the proper use of state-of-the-art exercise equipment for several aerobic based exercise interventions. Equipment includes treadmills, exercise bikes, elliptical, steppers, rowers etc. The exercise interventions will take place at several sites including Oakland and three satellite locations in the Pittsburgh area. The Technician will assist in supervising the research participants during their exercise sessions and must be capable of enforcing safety standards.
The Exercise Technician will strictly adhere to study protocols and report to the study's lead Exercise Physiologist. The Technician will keep detailed records of each exercise session and provide exercise prescription in order for subjects to maintain required intensity of exercise. This person will also be involved in managing subject adherence and attendance and follow-up phone calls with absent participants which may require brief motivation counseling. This position will also entail data entry of data from numerous trials into a secure database. Candidate must be detail oriented.
The Exercise Technician will also assist with numerous graded exercise testing protocols with the goal of independently administering these testing protocols. Candidate must be organized and have good communication skills. Travel is required to exercise sites; therefore, the Exercise Technician must have reliable transportation and the capability of moving to and from sites. This position will also participate in deployment and uploading of objective physical activity measuring devices.
The position prefers to have a candidate that has personal training experience or degree in exercise related field. Master's Degree preferred in Kinesiology with certification from the American College of Sports Medicine. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and SPSS.
