The Rhode Island School of Design Facilities department is actively seeking an experienced Lead Groundskeeper to join its in-house team. This is a fixed-term position with a duration of approximately 8 months from date of hire, with the possibility of permanent extension. Excellent benefits are included with this position.
The Lead Groundskeeper will supervise and perform all duties pertaining to the installation, upkeep, maintenance, and beautification of all campus grounds, walkways, storm drains systems and parking lots.
Upkeep of all lawns. Apply pesticides in all outdoor areas. Determine best location of flower beds and best varieties to be planted. Layout and tend flower beds and other decorative vegetation. Work in conjunction with the director of campus design and exhibitions.
Train, schedule and supervise grounds personnel. Responsible for adherence to safety guidelines, rules, and policies.
Operate tractors, forklifts and loaders in removing snow and ice from walks, driveways, parking lots, and in new landscape construction.
Supervise and perform heavy rigging and all moving of office furniture and institutional equipment. Assist the custodial or maintenance departments as required. Responsible for trash pickup.
Working from blueprints, oversee new landscape installations; install and maintain leach fields.
Drive RISD vehicle to transport materials and staff to the job site(s), possibly outside normal business hours.
Responsible for the servicing, maintenance, and upkeep of motorized lawn, garden, and snow removal equipment.
Responsible for supervision of grounds and equipment of Tillinghast Estates.
Report faulty building or systems problems to maintenance supervisor.
Oversee sandblasting operations.
Perform other projects as required.
High school or equivalent combination of education and experience, plus additional specialized courses in landscaping.
Three to five years experience in landscaping, including supervisory experience.
Valid driver's license required.
Valued but not required skills and experience:
Certified Commercial Chemical Applicator's License.
This is a full-time, 40-hour per week position. Shift begins at 6:50am and ends at 3:20pm. Some night and weekend hours may be required.
