University Advancement has an outstanding opportunity for an Associate Director for Advancement, Social Sciences.POSITION PURPOSEThe Associate Director for Advancement for the Social Sciences works with the Director of Advancement for the Social Sciences, the Associate Dean for Advancement and External Relations, academic leaders, department chairs and faculty, volunteers, and other advancement staff to actively identify potential donors, cultivate and nurture positive external relationships, and solicit major gifts of $50,000 or more to support private funding initiatives.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIESFrontline Fundraising The Associate Director is primarily charged with identifying, cultivating, soliciting, negotiating, and stewarding major gifts starting at $50,000. The majority of the Associate Director's time is focused on gifts from individuals; however, the position also may require interaction with corporation and foundation entities.Manage a portfolio of 75 major gift prospects capable of making gifts of $50,000 or above.Make at least 75 substantive contacts each year with those prospects in their portfolio. Identify major gift prospects. Develop and implement a solicitation strategy for each assigned major gift prospect. In addition, conduct 10 qualification contacts each year.Solicit a minimum of 12 major gifts each year.Prepare written proposals, informational materials, endowment agreements, gift illustrations and other materials needed to secure major gifts. Participate cooperatively in the University's prospect management and tracking system.Proactively reach out to qualify leads through cold calls and emails making a minimum of 60 new contacts each year. Identify engagement opportunities for these new relationships. Work with the Director of Advancement for the Social Sciences to develop gift strategies to engage cold relationships and move them through the donor commitment continuum to a gift conversation.Coordinate the participation of administrators, academic leaders, volunteers and advancement staff in major gift fundraising activities.In consultation with the Director of Advancement for the Social Sciences, establish personal goals, objectives and strategies for major gift fundraising. Participate in assessing progress toward goals.Work cooperatively with staff in the Principal Giving, Regional Giving, Planned Giving and Corporate and Foundation Relations in preparing solicitation strategies for assigned prospects in portfolio.Plan, assign and review the work of support staff for the major gift program. Responsibilities require considerable professional independence, personal initiative, and the ability to effectively and quickly respond to a variety of situations involving University constituencies.Support the Director of Advancement, Divisional Dean and the volunteer advisory boards in their advancement efforts on behalf of the College.Seek appropriate training opportunities, including particularly training necessary for proficiency in the use of gift planning techniques.Provide major gift fundraising training opportunities for advancement staff, academic leaders and volunteers.Submit regular reports to the Director of Advancement for the Social Sciences.Other duties assigned by the Director of Advancement for the Social Sciences. Sees every difference as an opportunity for growth and change.Supervision ReceivedThis position reports to the Director for Advancement, Social Sciences.Supervision ExercisedThis position supervises the Social Sciences Advancement Assistant in conjunction with the Director of Advancement for Social Sciences.REQUIREMENTSA bachelor's degree and at least five years of progressively responsible experience in institutional development/advancement, with an emphasis on cultivating and soliciting major gifts. Equivalent development/advancement experience outside of higher education may substitute for educational institution experience. Documented fundraising success in previous positions required.Proficiency using PC computers. Demonstrated strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for correspondence, special reports, spreadsheets, databases, forms, etc.Demonstrated ability to establish, cultivate and steward strong relationships with donors and friends to build and maintain lifelong partnerships and trust with while aligning the donor's passions and goals with the institution.Intrinsically motivated and able to create innovative ideas to achieve results.
