The Conference Services Sales Manager leads the University Conference Services team in delivering outstanding service and ensures effectiveness in booking all conferences, events, and meeting space. Prepares and plans all details for University Summer Conferences Oversees a diverse conference and event program, including a comprehensive partnership with youth programs leaders to ensure safety and compliance.
Deliver exceptional service to internal and external customers, focusing on building future relationships with MSU for youth programs and long term stewardship with adult guests and conferences.
Possesses knowledge of RHS and MSU processes, facilities, and partners to professionally and effectively represent services and cross-sell.
Interview hire, train, supervise and evaluate a team of three facility and conference event coordinators and one Administrative Professional.
Provide RHS and REHS with pertinent information on upcoming events to ensure effective operational planning, including 30/60/90 event projections; collaborates closely with facilities and residence education team.
Develops, documents and maps core office processes.
Partners with MSU Youth Protection Office and Michigan State University Athletics as the primary coordinator of youth Sports Camp programs.
Lead team in overseeing the planning and execution of all large scale conferences (conferences with participants over 3,000; such as Odyssey of the Mind World Finals and Order of the Arrow).
Understand the needs of diverse populations and effectively serves students and guests with an inclusive approach.
Sales of space for University Conference Services (UCS) events in various Residence Halls, Dining Halls, and all other appropriate MSU campus locations according to guest needs, maximizing revenues by maximizing facility/function.
Sell, maintain, and increase business in existing accounts while developing new accounts.
Leads team in planning event details with guests to ensure a successful event, including function room, audio visual, set ups, food & beverage, transportation and any other needs that arise.
Assist, and provide vision for, sales and marketing plans for UCS to increase business and revenue and service visibility internally and externally.
Participate in weekly Post Function/Evaluation meeting in an effort to communicate with other internal departments to discover opportunities for improvements.
Assist in the preparation and execution of budget and revenue projecting.
Other duties as assigned by the Associate Director of Administration.
Computer proficiency in enterprise software tools. Standard office environment. This job requires moderate physical effort and involves moving throughout various RHS venues and/or other properties to provide tours to current and prospective customers, and viewing a VDT screen 26-75% of the time.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year degree program in Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management or related field; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in supervision, food service, labor scheduling, cost control techniques, financial analysis, forecasting and budgeting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Bachelor’s Degree in hotel and hospitality management or related field
Experience with large scale event management or coordination
Experience in higher education, hotel and/or guest services mgmt., planning events and managing in a higher education environment
Project management experience
Food, Beverage, and Catering experience
Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; some nights and weekends seasonally.
