Position Summary: This position will prepare, set up, maintain, and operate agricultural research and crop production equipment to prepare seedbeds, plant, cultivate, spray, and harvest field crops in support of research related to potatoes, sugar beets, forage crops, dry beans, small grains, corn, and other crops. Maintain agricultural research and crop production machinery, buildings and grounds. Irrigate crops grown for agricultural research by surface and various pressurized sprinkler systems. Assist with field days or other educational events for the public and stakeholders. Contribute to team effort by creating a work environment that emphasizes teamwork and safety.
Thorough knowledge of methods used in agricultural crop production.
Experience in operation and maintenance of a variety of diesel and gasoline powered farm equipment, and operation of farm implements for tillage, planting, spraying, cultivation, and harvest.
Experience in the safe use of electrical and hand operated shop tools.
Knowledge of good safety practices. Flexibility to work odd hours and some weekends.
Valid Idaho Class A Commercial Drivers or ability/willingness to obtain within three months and/or Class D Drivers License.
Private Applicators License, Professional Applicators License, and/or Chemigation or be willing to obtain one within 6 months.
Associate degree or higher in agricultural related field.
Knowledge of irrigation of various agricultural crops by sprinkler and surface methods.
Knowledge of farm chemicals and their use.
Flexibility to work in multiple locations.
Experience in welding, plumbing, carpentry, and electrical work.
Computer record-keeping skills.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions: Must be able to drive a University vehicle and pass a drivers record check.This position requires the employee to possess or obtain (within 3 months) a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) and therefore, under the Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements, is subject to the following drug and alcohol testing: pre-employment (post-offer/pre-duty), post-accident, random, reasonable suspicion, return-to-duty and follow-up.Ability to carry, lift and/or otherwise move items of at least 80 pounds.Ability to work in adverse environmental conditions.
