American University is in search of a part-time roll-off driver to support the campus’ waste and recycling program. This driver will support the success of the campus Zero Waste program by providing high quality, detailed, collections to the campus waste system. Safety, caution, and patience are essential and required for drivers working on campus to ensure the safety of campus users. The position also requires the responsibility of ensuring high quality data from any waste disposal facilities and sharing data with the Zero Waste Manager daily. Additionally, as this program is developing, we hope to find a driver interested in helping develop the hauling program with flexibility, as unforeseen issues are resolved.
Be the primary driver for the campus’ waste and recycling program to include driving roll-off, hook and other vehicles as assigned
Transport all campus waste streams to the proper disposal facilities to include: recycling, landfill, compost, yard waste, and construction and demolition debris
Help ensure all dumpster locations are cleaned and swept when dumpsters are moved
Notify manager of any issues with contamination of waste streams with included photos
Communicate with the Supervisor, Recycling Associates, to schedule the emptying of containers and cleaning schedules
Complete daily safety checks of equipment and vehicles
Potential aid with waste infrastructure maintenance and inspections
Expected Hours of Work/Pay Rate
Hours are 6am to 11am Mon-Fri
Commensurate with experience
Required Education and Experience
High School Diploma
3+ years of experience driving roll-off trucks
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
Possession of a currently valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) Class B with air brake endorsements issues by the jurisdiction in which the individual resides. Hazmat certification a plus.
A clean driving record with no more than 2 points; moving violations, suspensions, or revocations of a driver’s permit because of a moving traffic violation within the 36 months preceding appointment
