The Macklis Lab is directed toward both 1) understanding molecular controls and mechanisms over neuron sub-type development, diversity, axon guidance-circuit formation, and degeneration in the cerebral cortex and 2) applying developmental controls toward both brain and spinal cord regeneration and directed differentiation for in vitro therapeutic and mechanistic screening. Under the supervision of Prof. Macklis and his research team, technicians will conduct work focused on cell culture and molecular biology, as well as on mouse genetics and molecular biology and tissue analysis. Technicians will carry out essential research support functions in the laboratory, including:
Preparing matter for analysis and diagnosis, performing duties such as cutting, embedding and staining tissue, mounting slides, and preparing complex chemical solutions and media.
Performing standard experimental tests and procedures.
Recording results of experiments according to standard laboratory techniques.
Maintaining cultures and other experimental matter, requiring knowledge of laboratory techniques.
Performing related job duties as required.
Working Conditions: May be required to lift, move and transport related laboratory equipment. May be required to work with a variety of hazardous materials. May be required to work with and handle animals.
This term appointment will end 2 years from the employee start date. The position may be renewed based on the performance, funding availability and changing needs of the Stem Cell and Regenerative Biology Department.

Experience with basic biological laboratory techniques is required.
BA/BS in biological sciences is preferred as is directly related lab experience.
Strong communication, demonstrated organization skills, attention to detail, and the ability to carry out responsibilities in a collaborative team environment are essential.
