PRT Trades Specialist I - Facilities & Services 07365
The Transportation and Parking unit of the Division of Facilities and Services at West Virginia University is seeking applications for a Trades Specialist I position for the Personal Rapid Transit System (PRT) . The PRT is a totally automated public transit system consisting of 73 driverless vehicles, nine miles of dedicated guideway, five passenger stations, two maintenance facilities and a vast array of ancillary equipment. The PRT Trades Specialists oversee and coordinate activities of workers engaged in repair and maintenance of PRT electrical systems.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Install, maintain and repair power distribution systems, vehicle light rail systems and their components. Responsible for the correct application of electrical theory and principles in as they pertain to the PRT's electrical components.
Ensure proper operation and correct interpretation of test results using computers, digital and analog multi-meters, voltmeters and high voltage test equipment, and specially designed transit system instruments and tools.
Ensure that all work complies with national and local electrical codes and that safe work practices are followed.
Perform detailed scheduled and unscheduled maintenance inspections, troubleshooting, installation and repairs to a variety of PRT installations and ancillary equipment and services. This may include:
120/240/277/480 and 23000 volt 3 phase power distribution systems
Implementing emergency response plans and actions for unplanned or emergency events
Lighting and lighting remote control devices
Remote monitoring and alarm devices
Electric motors, fans, generators, etc.
PRT 3 rail vehicle power distribution system.
PRT vehicle propulsion motors
23000/575 volt substation testing and maintenance
Participate in PRT vehicle recoveries and functions as a Manual Override Control Unit operator.
Interpret maintenance manuals, schematics and drawings.
Act on the supervisor's behalf as needed.

Work Hours: Sunday - Thursday, 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.; T o accomplish the maintenance mission, this position works primarily midnight shift throughout the transit system, indoors and outdoors under various/extreme weather conditions.
Pay Grade: 13, WVU provides competitive wages for its employees, and takes experience and related education into consideration when determining appropriate salary.
Job requires broad trade knowledge or specific technical knowledge from a formal registered apprenticeship or vocational training program of up to 18 months beyond high school in the electrical field
Experience in the following is preferred:
At least two (2) years of verifiable Journeyman level experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of varied electrical systems and equipment
Experience with high voltage and industrial or plant equipment
An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered
DOT background check
Valid driver's license
Valid WV state electrical license (Journeyman) preferred
Physical demands include:
Daily bending, standing, walking and climbing
Daily lifting materials over 75 pounds
Periodically working in difficult/awkward positions and in confined spaces
