The Kingsbury Center is one of the oldest nonprofit educational institutions in the Washington area that addresses the special needs of young children, adolescents and adults who experience learning difficulties. The Center is seeking a Dedicated Aide for the 2018-2019 school year. We offer a competitive salary commensurate with experience and education.
Under the direction of the administrative team, the Dedicated Aide collaborates with the Lead Teacher to create, implement and support the daily lesson plan and classroom instruction.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
Use information and data from a variety of sources to understand student’s instructional needs and progress against Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or Individualized Learning Plan (ILP) goals
Facilitate one-on-one learning and improve student’s participation using a variety of instructional and behavior management strategies
Demonstrate understanding of the curriculum and knowledge of content area for the classroom/subjects to which the student is assigned. Must seek clarification if subject content or instruction is unclear
Support student in the transition to and from and his/her participation in special subjects, related services, lunch and recess
Manage student behavioral controls using positive reinforcement and positive redirection
Prepare student for community transitions to encourage self-sufficiency within the school environment
Assist students with personal hygiene (including toileting), meals and other daily activities, as per the IEP
Implement behavioral and academic strategies as outlined in student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP)/Individualized Learning Plan (ILP)
Meet regularly with members of the classroom teaching team, lead teacher and appropriate related service providers
Use appropriate teaching materials and assistive technologies to facilitate learning
Maintain student daily performance data
Meet regularly with the classroom teacher/teachers to review expectations for student performance

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related discipline or combined relevant experience and number of credits that would equate to a Bachelor’s degree
Must have at least one year of experience working with children with learning differences
Knowledge of current instructional and positive behavior management techniques, assistive aids and curriculum scope and sequence
Demonstrated knowledge of special education best practices
Demonstrated skills in written and oral communication
Able to change daily routine to meet the changing needs of students
Able to work effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary team
Able to stand, move throughout the campus, operate a computer, ascend and descend stairs, stoop, kneel and crouch
Able to lift, move or transport equipment and/or furniture weighing up to 20 pounds across campus to various classrooms and events
Able to work in outdoor weather conditions
