The County Agent is a member of the Extension staff of Clemson University. The agent is responsible for working cooperatively with other county and state staff to plan, implement, maintain and evaluate Extension education programs for county, region, and state adult and/or youth clientele.
Provide programmatic leadership and technical expertise to public consumers of home horticulture information by:
Developing and delivering reliable home horticulture information through the use of gardening topic series program, public gardening demonstrations, public plant problem solving clinics, community (neighborhood) garden program, etc., employing traditional and electronic presentation methods, as appropriate.
Developing youth horticulture programs.
Maintaining and coordinating an active Master Gardener program within GAR; training and employing master gardeners in the accomplishment of the home horticulture outreach mission.
Analyzing and reporting the economic impact of the home horticulture outreach program.
Generating revenue through programs, grants, publications, etc.
Developing and managing local budget process.
Maintain and improve knowledge and proficiency by:
Attending state, regional and national meetings, workshops, and training events.
Joining pertinent professional associations and interacting with other professionals at group information exchange events.
Developing an exemplary program in order to become an invited speaker at events such as those mentioned in 2 a and 2 b.
Communicate with and professionally represent the Extension Service to the horticulture industry and to the public by:
Disseminating timely educational information through correspondence (traditional and electronic) and through mass media methods.
Providing support to other agents and allied agricultural professionals to aid the success of their programs.
Being prepared to respond appropriately to media requests for information.
Responsible for all Civil Rights Compliance and other reporting procedures as directed by proper authority.

Education - Master's degree preferred.
Valid Driver's License with acceptable driving record required.
Standard Hrs: 37.5; Salary commensurate with education and experience.
