The Transportation and Parking unit within the Division of Facilities and Services at West Virginia University is seeking applications for a PRT Electronics Specialist position. The WVU Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) is a totally automated public transit system consisting of five passenger stations, 73 automated vehicles, two maintenance facilities, nine miles of dedicated guideway and a vast array of ancillary equipment. The PRT Electronics Specialist I position is an entry level position that provides electronic expertise and actions to assist in the maintenance and repair of the PRT System.
In order to be successful, the ideal candidate will:
Assist in the application of electronic theory, principles of electrical circuits, electrical/electronic testing procedures, mathematics, physics, and related subjects to test, troubleshoot, repair and modify life safety electronics equipment.
Analyze and interpret test data, and adjust, calibrate, align and modify circuitry and components and record results.
Operate and interpret test results using computers, digital and analog multi meters, voltmeters, power meters, frequency counters, etc.
Use and maintain specially designed PRT instruments and tools, soldering and de-soldering equipment and hand tools with the assistance of the PRT Electronic Technician.
Assist in performing preventive and unscheduled maintenance on a variety of equipment, such as central and station computers, electrification panel, various communication systems, Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), vehicle collision avoidance system, etc.
Perform a variety of maintenance activities to support the overall maintenance mission, including operating motor vehicles, implementing emergency response plans and actions, communicate with other PRT employees via UHF radio, etc.
Operate a state vehicle to transport him/herself, equipment and other PRT personnel to remote work sites and respond to PRT emergencies.
Open and close passenger stations.
Perform snow removal and de-icing as assigned
Support PRT operation for special events (football, basketball, concerts, etc.)
The Division of Facilities and Services encompasses seven units that are integral to the University's success. Pay Grade: 13, WVU provides competitive wages for its employees, and takes experience and related education into consideration when determining appropriate salary.
Work Hours: R equires various work shifts including weekends and overtime assignments
Associates degree in electronics or electronic system theory from a technical or military school, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
At least six (6) months of experience in the following:
Troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of electronic equipment
Experience operating electronic test equipment
Valid driver's license
Computer A+ Certification preferred
Standing, lifting, carrying, bending, walking and manipulation of heavy (50-75 lbs) electronic assemblies daily
Periodically working in difficult and awkward positions
Ability to work in various weather conditions both indoors and outdoors
