Under the supervision of the Transportation and Parking Services (TAPS) Transit Operations Manager and Assistant Transit Managers, drives/operates a variety of passenger vehicles in support of the campus day and night bus service, Disability Van Service, premium transit services, Campus Tours, and Charters on scheduled or non-scheduled routes, on or off campus.
The primary purpose of the position is to safely transport staff, faculty, and students who are required to travel on campus and in between campus sites to fulfill their work and school related obligations.
Selected candidate must pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.
In accordance with the Department of Transportation (DOT) Drug and Alcohol Testing Regulations, pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test and conform and pass the on-going drug and alcohol testing requirements.
Continued employment is contingent upon participation in a Drug and Alcohol Testing Program and conform and satisfactorily pass then-going drug and alcohol testing requirements.
Comply with the University of California Policy on Substance Abuse.
Possess valid Class B Commercial license to drive in the State of California, with passenger endorsement and a satisfactory driving record. License must not be restricted to vehicles 15 passengers or less including the driver, but must certify individual to drive passenger vehicles weighing more than 26, 001 gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) and carrying 20 passengers or more including the driver (DMV CLASS B LICENSE WITH PASSENGER ENDORSEMENT).
Participate in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) pull notice system. Continued employment is contingent upon proof of a satisfactory driving record.
Possess a current DMV Medical Certificate and re-certify every 2 years.
Air Brake certified.
Work a varied schedule, including nights, weekends and holidays; work 8 hour shifts, an alternative schedule and assigned overtime.
Work outside in all weather conditions.
Perform duties while sitting, standing or walking intermittently throughout shift; repeatedly kneel, bend, or stoop; intermittently push, pull, and use force to move objects; constantly reach, handle, or grasp various objects
Selected candidate must be able to sit for long periods of time while driving.
Required to report known or suspected child abuse or neglect as defined by CANRA; required to sign a Statement Acknowledging Requirement to Report Child Abuse prior to commencing employment.
Multiple positions available.
Skill in the safe operation of various University passenger vehicles to provide transportation as directed.
Knowledge of driving laws as specified in the California Vehicle Code.
Ability to maintain accurate, legible logs and records.
Skill in establishing/maintaining tactful relationships with supervisors, passengers, co-workers.
Ability to participate in safety training/certification programs.
