Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Training and Consultation Specialist for The Boggs Center on Development Disabilities at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Reports to the Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, Director.
Provides advanced level consultation, technical assistance and training services consistent with identified project goals and objectives. The Training and Consultation Specialist is primarily responsible for delivery of training and consultation support to public New Jersey schools on the implementation of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports. Responsibilities include participating in the planning, coordination and provision of training, curriculum development; coordination and provision of technical assistance to network schools through email, phone and on-site district support as prescribed by the PBSIS initiative's protocol; completing administrative duties (e.g., helping to maintain the website, maintaining technical assistance logs, etc.); responding to requests for information; and other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Prepares for trainings (includes training set up/ clean up), maintains the PBSIS suite, responds to and participates in team discussions, and coordinates with NJ DOE- SEP.
Procures designated products from schools, maintains up to date files and electronic folders for schools, maintains up to date documentation for technical assistance logs and service delivery data.
Maintains regular contact with schools through email, phone and onsite support as prescribed by the NJ PBSIS technical assistance protocol.
Provides solution-focused assistance that advances schools' implementation of the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports framework.
Travels to training and school sites throughout New Jersey.
Participates in training to be a SWIS/PBIS Apps facilitator.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Requires a Master's Degree in Special Education or a related field plus two (2) years of experience implementing Positive Behavior Support in public schools; or a Doctorate Degree in Special Education or a related field plus one (1) year of experience; or a Bachelor's Degree in Special Education or a related field (e.g., Education, Psychology, Rehabilitation Counseling) plus four (4) years of experience.
Experience conducting Functional Behavior Assessments and designing Function-Based Intervention Plans is required.
Experience with public schools is required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports framework is required.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Power Point is required.
Experience with urban and/or economically disadvantaged schools is preferred.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Physical Demands: Travel to training sites throughout the state (some limited out of state travel may be required) including the transportation of training materials (bins with handouts, projector etc.) to site locations. Training and Consultation Specialists need to lift weights up to approximately 30 pounds in order to move training equipment and set up training sites.
Work Environment: New Brunswick based main office suite is shared with six NJ PBSIS team members. Semi private work area that is generally pleasant in a clean, well-lighted, quiet to moderately loud setting. Training and Consultation Specialists frequently work off site at school or training site locations.
